Pouget de Jean Guitton, Jean-Pierre Guérend nous fait parcourir une époque, avec ses événements marquants (la guerre, la décolonisation, Vatican II ...) et ses grands hommes (Sangnier, de Gaulle, Suhard, Edmond Michelet, Franz Stock...). Mais il met aussi en évidence, de manière originale, la dynamique toujours nouvelle de l'Évangile, capable de structurer l'existence personnelle et de catalyser les forces sociales en les orientant vers la justice et la paix.
