Nowadays in France and in many other countries the failure of the official education system is deplored. In this essay, Jean de Viguerie explains the origins of the disaster for parents and teachers. The main culprits are the experts in pedagogical skills; the innumerable teaching reforms introduced by governments over the past fifty years being only the immediate cause. The well-known contemporary pedagogues, Freinet, Ferrière, Piaget, Meirieu, always refer to those of past centuries such as Erasmus, Comenius and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The utopian system, perfected over the course of time, has nowadays become state doctrine and regulates teaching in a large part of the world. This lie must be exposed for what it is. The pedagogical utopia proclaims ‘success for all’ but, at the same time, it proscribes the real means of learning and devalues knowledge. It boasts how it places children at the heart of the scholastic system — children as ‘subjects’ and not ‘objects’ — but at the same time it ignores their innate intelligence, memory and thirst for knowledge. It takes hold of them, shaping and manipulating – that is where the real failure lies. We must free children from their oppressive tutelage by denouncing this utopia.
