A vast survey to establish the number of clerics and take stock of beliefs and practices in France, Western Europe and North America would appear to confirm a hypothesis widely evoked in recent times: the decline of Christianity (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant), but also that of Judaism. It is not easy to acknowledge, or even envisage, such an eventuality. It is even more difficult to observe the factors that will result in possible new types of presence or behaviour in anticipation of the on-going decline. This postreligious landscape contrasts with two other more apparent religious universes, although incomparable in real terms: Salafi Islam and Evangelical Protestantism, both of which are implanted in the geographical perimeters (the suburbs) of the postreligious world.
