It is in liturgy that the Scriptures are most at home. In liturgical proclamation, the Scriptures take on their fullest meaning: the word of a living God, present and active among us. Liturgical proclamation breathes new life into dry old manuscripts, awakening them so that they may become a transforming and nourishing presence in the world of the living Christ. Although the revised Ordo Lectionum Missae - the Latin term for what is commonly called the Roman Lectionary - has been an integral part of Catholic liturgy since its promulgation in 1969, its history, aims and structure remain little known. This book examines certain aspects of the dominical lectionary: the history of its recent reform, the principles that guided the selection and organisation of the readings, and how it structures and gives meaning to the different times of the liturgical year. Readers will acquire a deeper appreciation of the lectionary and, through it, of liturgy.
