This book recounts the life of Father Kim En Joong, a Korean Dominican priest and a religious painter known all over the world. Kim En Joong was born in 1940 in South Korea, which was then under Japanese occupation. The rice fields of his childhood and the Goon-si factory in Daejon, where his father worked as a calligrapher, set the scene for a saga that took him from the Art School in Seoul (where his talent was quickly recognised) to the South Korean army (where he reached the rank of lieutenant), and to baptism. A surprise journey to Europe was transformed into a wondrous artistic and religious experience. Firstly a philosophy student in Switzerland, then a novice at the Dominican monastery in Fribourg, he was encouraged in the Catholic religion, and as a painter, by Fathers Pfister and Geiger who advised him to go to Paris and facilitated the move; to enable him to continue his artistic and apostolic life. Recognised by the most distinguished figures of his community, such as the masters of the Damian Byrne Order, Timothy Radcliffe and Carlos Asproz Costa, but also by art critics throughout the world, Father Kim’s paintings are exhibited in Europe ( Paris, Rome, Zurich, Dublin…), in the U.S.A. (San Francisco, New York, Chicago…) and in the Far East ( Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing). His works can be seen in the galleries and museums of capital cities as well as in convents and monasteries. His stained glass windows decorate religious edifices in Europe and all over the world. In France, his works include the chapel at Bénodet, in Brittany, the stained glass windows of the cathedral at Evry, and the church of Saint Pierre-Aumaître in Angoulème.
