Avec ces « Lettres à ma Mère bien-aimée », l'historien Claude Langlois poursuit ses investigations consacrées aux écrits majeurs de Thérèse de Lisieux. Il restitue le manuscrit C sous sa forme première de vingt-sept lettres écrites jour après jour en juin 1897 à sa prieure Marie de Gonzague, alors que la moniale, gravement atteinte par la tuberculose, se voyait incitée à prendre la plume une dernière fois. L'ouvrage constitue le deuxième volet d'un triptyque commencé avec « Le Poème de septembre ». Il est aussi le premier qui soit tout entier consacré à présenter et commenter ce manuscrit ultime où Thérèse révèle le nouveau paysage de son âme, et notamment ses tentations contre la foi, mais aussi où elle revient sur sa vie au Carmel en s'exprimant avec une impressionnante liberté de ton. Ce livre entièrement neuf montre la Thérèse des derniers temps, affrontée jour après jour à la mort qui vient et se dérobe tout à la fois, disant à sa prieure bien-aimée, et à qui la lira après sa mort, toute sa vérité..., toutes ses vérités.

With ‘Lettres à ma Mère bien-aimée’, the historian Claude Langlois continues his research into the major works of Thérèse de Lisieux. He has restored Manuscript C to its original form: twenty-seven letters written day after day in June 1897 to her prioress Marie de Gonzague, when the young nun, seriously ill with tuberculosis, found herself prompted to pick up her pen for the last time. The book constitutes the second part of a triptych, which began with ‘Le Poème de septembre’. It is also the first study entirely devoted to presenting and commenting this final manuscript in which Thérèse reveals the new landscape of her soul, in particular her temptations against her faith, and in which she revisits her life at Carmel expressing herself in an impressively free manner. This completely new book shows Thérèse at the end of her life, confronting death as it seems to come and go as the days go by, and telling her beloved prioress and whoever else may choose to read it after her death, her truth…, her every truth.
